8U Boys
Overview
The 8U Boys teams provide an opportunity for our youngest players to play competitively against other teams. Practices are focused on developing fundamental skills such as throwing, catching, scooping and cradling. We also teach basic team concepts in terms of defense and offense. Boys wear the full complement of gear - helmets, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves and a stick (available for rent). Body checking is not allowed at 8U, the gear is needed to protect from accidental contact.
8U is defined as ages 8-and-under through the current school year ending August 31st. Each spring, the 8U boys play against other teams from local clubs. Practice is twice a week with a game on the weekend. Game are on small-sided fields and often don't include goalies. The 8U boys can also participate in clinics when offered in the off-season (summer and fall).
8U games are modified as follows:
- No faceoff
- No offside penalties, players can roam the entire field
- Coaches can be on the field to assist and officiate
- There must be one attempt pass before a player can shoot on goal
- After goals, the defense is given the ball at goal line extended
- Some body contact is allowed but body checking is illegal
- Limited stick checking, with only lift checks, poke checks and stick checks below an opponent’s shoulders
- No man down penalties, but players who commit fouls will leave the field
- All players must be 5 yards away from the ball carrier before restarting play
